Siding, cladding and masonry are the outer protective materials on your home’s exterior. These materials must be functional, beautiful and reflect the overall style of the home. Within this realm there are many materials to consider; engineered wood, fiber cement, steel, vinyl, composites, stucco, brick, stone and natural woods are all suitable materials to install and protect the exterior of the home. There are an infinite number of ways these materials can be combined and used and ultimately the home owner must begin making decisions for the type of siding they would like installed based on budget, aesthetics and environment. Once a home owner has a basic idea of these needs, the perfect design can begin to take shape as we experiment with color, texture and material to get the highest visual appeal for the least amount of investment. This is where the joy begins in designing your perfect exterior. Call us today at 303-842-7788 for a free consultation.

What type of cladding will fit your home & budget?

PLANKS, PANELS & ACCENTS

In addition to choosing the appropriate siding materials you'd like installed on the home, it's important to consider the form the materials will take. When working with LP Smartside engineered wood, James Hardie fiber cement, Pro Via vinyls, various composites and steel products, the material can be ordered in many forms to create different designs and combinations. For example; if you like the look of horizontal planks or board and batten with panels and trims, shake or scallops, these forms can be found in most siding products. Different products can even be combined for different looks. A home owner may want a tongue and groove cedar accent somewhere on the home but may not want to do the entire home in natural cedar. Or the home might look incredible with stone or shake accents in one material with the main body of the siding done in another material. Ultimately the home owner will want to consider how long they will be in the home as well as the style of the neighborhood and the location of the home to determined the best fit. There are certain areas of the front range that may get more hail than others, necessitating a steel product with a guarantee against hail damage. Many home owners in high risk fire areas may want a product with a fire rating such as James Hardie fiber cement.

SOFFIT, FASCIA & GUTTERS

The main body of the siding will include the planks, panels, window trims and corner trims or anything that is part of the flat wall surface of the exterior of the home. In addition to the body of the siding, we will examine the soffit, fascia and gutters that may need replacement, repair, covering or rebuilding. Due to the way most homes are built, the soffit, fascia and gutters should be done together. They can be separated out from the main body of the siding if the home owner wants to maintain or upgrade the home in phases, but often the soffit and fascia are built together and the gutters are the final item to install once the soffit and fascia have been taken care of since the gutters attach to the fascia lines. In terms of order of operations it is also useful to know that rebuilding the soffit and fascia should be done before a roof rebuild with the gutters and downspouts going on very last. If you have to do both your roof and siding, it is best practice to build in this order; soffit and fascia first, then siding, then the roof, and finally the gutters and downspouts.
